FAQs - General artwork Commissions
How do I commission a custom painting or drawing from Cviisual Art Studio?
Our process is simple: We have a For All Inquiries form below if you have any general questions. For an actual quote: 1. Inquiry & Vision: To submit a request – click on your preferred Commission type (button link to: Pet Portrait / People Portrait / Art Commission). This will take you to the correct page where you can enter your Commission details via the Order Form. 2. Quote & Approval: We’ll provide a detailed quote and estimated timeline. 3. Deposit: A non-refundable 50% deposit secures your spot and covers initial material costs. 4. Creation & Updates: We share progress photos / sketches for your feedback. 5. Final Payment & Delivery: You approve the finished piece, pay the remaining balance, and we ship your custom artwork.
What mediums do you work in for custom artworks?
We specialize in original, hand-painted and hand-drawn traditional mediums, including Oil Paintings (on any substrate), Acrylic Paintings (on any substrate), Watercolour Paintings, (generally on archival 100% cotton paper), and Charcoal / Graphite Drawings (on any substrate). The medium best suited for your vision will be discussed during the initial consultation.
How is the price of a custom art commission determined?
Commission pricing is based on four key factors: 1. Size / Dimensions (larger pieces require more material / time), 2. Subject Complexity (intricate backgrounds, multiple subjects, etc), 3. Chosen Medium (oil painting is typically more time-intensive than a charcoal drawing), and 4. Framing / Shipping requirements. Details for Framing will be discussed on a ‘per need’ basis. We offer Free Shipping Australia wide for a hassle-free experience!
What is your typical timeline for completing a custom artwork?
The timeline varies by size and complexity. Generally, a commission takes 2 – 12 weeks from deposit to completion. Oil Paintings take considerable time to dry, therefore cannot be shipped immediately. You will receive a clear, estimated timeline with your quote. If you have a specific deadline (for an anniversary or birthday), please let us know in your initial inquiry. We will try to accommodate ‘urgent’ requests!
What is your revision and feedback policy during the creation process?
We believe in collaboration. Your quote includes one major sketch / concept revision and one set of minor adjustments at the final stage. Any significant changes requested after the initial sketch approval may incur an additional fee, as they can greatly increase the total time spent on the piece.
Who owns the copyright to the commissioned artwork?
Australian copyright law (the Copyright Act 1968)
The artist retains all copyrights to the artwork, including the right to create prints, reproductions, and use progress photos for marketing (on social media or portfolio). You, the client, own the physical piece of original art for private display. If you require a commercial license or full transfer of copyright, this must be explicitly negotiated prior to starting the artwork, and will affect the final price.
